This was what we read about the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival in Die Zeit in the year it was founded.
Founded in 1981 by Gidon Kremer and Msgr. Prof. Josef Herowitsch, the festival quickly developed into an internationally recognized “oasis of chamber music”.
In 2011, Gidon Kremer handed over the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival to the French-German cellist Nicolas Altstaedt. Géza Rhomberg has been General Manager since 2018.
The festival has always served as a place for discoveries, experiments, the presentation of young artists and the development of artistic partnerships. Numerous lifelong friendships were formed here through making music together at the highest level. The list of top-class artists who performed at the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival to achieve these goals is long and very impressive.

Changes of dates
Gidon Kremer is planning for this summer’s festival a joint program with the popular actor Michael Dangl.
Due to scheduling reasons, the Matinee, scheduled for Tuesday, July 15th. will be changed to the evening before!
The concert together with Michael Dangl will now take place on Monday, July 14th, 7:30 p.m. at Lockenhaus Castle.

Impressions from 2024
The successful 43rd edition of the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival ended with Sándor Veress' “Orbis tonorum”, brilliantly conducted by the legendary 85-year-old Heinz Holliger.
Over 60 international musicians aged 12-87 like Sir András Schiff, Gidon Kremer, Vilde Frang, Fazil Say, Heinz Holliger, Anna Lena Elbert, the Kebyart Ensemble and many others followed Nicolas Altstaedt's invitation to play together in the international mecca of chamber music in Lockenhaus. Around 6,300 enthusiastic visitors experienced 25 top-class events within 10 days in the Lockenhaus Church and Castle, as well as in the Köszeg synagogue. 8 events were completely sold out.
